Veggies on ice – Kong

Ingredients

  • Chopped vegetables, such as carrots, zucchini and leafy greens (can use food processor)
  • Vegetable stock
  • A squishy treat or similar which will ‘plug up’ the small hole in the Kong

How to stuff it

Fill up the small hole in the Kong with the squishy treat or similar to ensure that it is watertight.

Make up the vegetable stock (using just a pinch of the stock powder with some boiling water and allow it to cool.

Put the chopped vegetables into the Kong, then pour in the stock so it almost reaches the top of the large hole (it will expand a little as it freezes). Put in the freezer for at least 3 hours and serve.  Tip – Stand the Kong in a coffee cup before you put it in the freezer just in case it leaks!

Another day you can use a smear of peanut butter (no Xylitol (see below) around the inside of the Kong, then stuff with pieces of – i.e.  (left-over meat, rice, pasta, tuna bake, kibble, liver treats, cheese etc).  Pack down firmly and even freeze or give straight away.  No onion or garlic as that is toxic to dogs.

NOTE  – Xylitol, a sweetener used in many foods, including peanut butter, yogurt, toothpaste and chewing gum, is safe for humans but potentially deadly for dogs.
